EDF Renouvelables, Our New Name in France

A letter from CEO Bruno Bensasson

Dear colleagues,

Today is an important day for our company. EDF Energies Nouvelles will become EDF Renouvelables in France and will now be recognised as a single, unified brand in more than 20 countries.

With this new name – EDF Renouvelables in France and EDF Renewables outside France – we assert EDF’s position as a world leader in renewable energy, a leader that is stepping up its commitment to the fight against climate change by setting ambitious goals in onshore and offshore wind power, solar power and energy storage.

Back in 2004, the company then called SIIF Energies was renamed EDF Energies Nouvelles. At the time, the name change came when EDF was moving into so-called “new” forms of energy, bringing hopes of greater respect for the planet. The name EDF Energies Nouvelles displayed that commitment and increased our company’s visibility with our partners.

Fourteen years later, renewable energy is now an essential component in the energy mix, recognised for its performance and competitive pricing. And today, renewable energy plays a key role in the fight against climate change.

The new name, EDF Renouvelables, even more clearly embodies our DNA, shared mindset and common direction. Fully embracing our values of agility, passion, cooperation, respect, responsibility and solidarity, and building on the commitment from all individuals, we openly state with this name our contribution to a key objective of EDF’s CAP 2030 strategy.

May we carry it proudly and work to enrich this brand capital with operational successes and innovative achievements, creating shared value for our customers, our employees, our shareholders and our planet.

Press Release: Nautilus Offshore Wind Project Under Official Review

by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU)

Nautilus would prepare New Jersey to take the lead in cultivating offshore wind talent, as states race to capitalize on this new economy

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities today announced its official acceptance of the application tendered by EDF Renewables and Fishermen’s Energy for the Nautilus Offshore Wind project. The agency is expected to review the project over the next few months and make a decision on whether to approve the project for immediate construction, which will be located approximately 2.8 miles east of the coastline of Atlantic City and could be complete as soon as 2020. The small-scale project, expected to be comprised of three wind turbines with a combined capacity of up to 25 megawatts (MW), is a crucial first step towards implementing the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act (OWEDA) and building a workforce capable of meeting Governor Phil Murphy’s statewide goal of 3,500 MW of offshore wind generation by 2030.

Press Release: EDF Renewables Brazil

Awarded 276 MW of wind energy projects in Bahia

Ventos da Bahia wind farm (183 MW)

At the last federal competitive tender held by the Brazilian regulator on August 31th, EDF Renewables was awarded two wind projects located in Bahia State, totaling 276 MW. EDF Renewables won nearly a quarter of the 1200 MW capacity awarded at the auction.

Both projects benefit from a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Each is an extension of existing wind projects. The first is a 147 MW addition to a 114 MW project 350 km north-west of Salvador awarded in the previous tender in April (Folha Larga). The second project is a 129 MW addition to a 183 MW wind farm (Ventos da Bahia), which is due to be commissioned within the next few weeks.

Established three years ago in Brazil, EDF Renewables already ranks among the country’s leaders in the renewable sector, with a portfolio of nearly 1,000 MW in wind and solar energy projects under construction and in operation.

These two projects, scheduled for commissioning in 2024, contribute to the EDF Group’s CAP 2030 strategy which aims at doubling its renewable energy capacity by 2030, in France and worldwide.

The Airwatch App for Mobile Devices It’s MANDATORY on your company-issued smart phone

There are still employees that haven't downloaded the AirWatch App to their company-issued smart phones. Are you one of them?

What is AirWatch?

AirWatch is a Mobile Device Management (MDM) service that allows EDF to provide better security for smartphones, tablets, and most mobile devices that are used for work-related purposes. AirWatch was selected as the enterprise solution to manage mobile devices.

Why do we need the AirWatch service?

Mobile devices have become increasingly powerful tools, and their use in the work-place is increasing. As the differences between mobile devices and traditional computers drop we need to take similar steps to protect our devices and minimize the chances of a data breach. The AirWatch service allows us to do this.

What do I need to do?

Instructions for enrollment were sent to everyone with a company-issued phone. You can also find them here for Apple iOS devices and here for Android devices. It only takes a few minutes to install.
Visit the AirWatch page on ECRM for more information. If you have any problems with your install, contact the Service Desk for help.

Blackspring Ridge Wind Project Hosts Family BBQ

For stakeholders, employees and their families

On August 24, the co-owners EDF Renewables and Enbridge Inc. along with Vestas, hosted a family BBQ at the Blackspring Ridge Wind Project.

Stakeholders, employees and their families enjoyed a nice lunch followed by activities and games. Guests could try on personal protective equipment (PPE) and get a photo beside a Mammoet crane, build their own puzzle turbine and compete for the construction of the tallest, free standing newspaper turbine!

The 300MW Blackspring Ridge Wind Project has been operational since May 2014 and with an investment of about $600 million, the project represents the largest investment in wind energy in Western Canada.

Ribbon Cutting for Distributed Solutions’ Delta Solar Project

24 MWp near Lansing Michigan

On August 29, the Distributed Solutions group celebrated the opening of Delta Solar, Michigan’s largest tracking solar array that will provide the state’s capital city and region with clean energy.

Representatives of CMS Energy, the Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) and EDF Renewables announced the 24-megawatt, two-part project is now fully operational during an event with community leaders at the combined facility in Delta Township. Delta Solar provides enough power to serve up to 4,200 homes.

Delta Solar is located on about 200 acres in Delta Township in Eaton County. The project features over 86,000 solar panels that use modern single-axis tracking technology to follow the sun’s movement, capturing more energy than traditional fixed-tilt solar modules. The project was constructed using local skilled labor and provided over 100 jobs during construction.
